The internationally unrecognized Republic of Somaliland seeks to export its secession issue, which has lasted for more than a decade, to the Red Sea to resolve a dilemma that the Federal Republic of Somalia has taken an opposing position on, and which the African Union and the international community have rejected. Somaliland currently aspires to exploit the state of international and regional competition to reach the Red Sea, and impose a new fait accompli at the expense of the countries bordering this waterway, primarily Somalia, Egypt, Djibouti and Eritrea. The issue of Somaliland's secession is not a matter of balance of power or mere demands by a state for the right to self-determination, but rather a strategic issue related to the security of the Red Sea and the future of the federal Somali state. In this context, the study focuses on the most important variables in the Somaliland problem and the related pivotal developments related to the Palestinian-Israeli war in 2023, and the growing demands within the United States of America to recognize Somaliland, in light of the Sino-American conflict over more influence in the Horn of Africa, while revealing Egypt's role in preserving the unity of Somalia, and developing proposals at the African, Arab and Egyptian levels to deal with the Somaliland problem.
