Abstract

There is no doubt that the African continent has a great history of conflicts and armed conflicts within it associated with the struggle for power, whether in the form of military coups, or violence associated with electoral processes. This has had serious consequences for stability, development and thus the national security of States on the African continent. Despite the availability of the early warning mechanism in countries and regional organizations such as the African Union and at the local level, it has succeeded in cases such as South Sudan, and failed in other cases, as happened in Côte d'Ivoire, Niger and Mali. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the reasons for the success and failure of the early warning mechanism in African countries and how to benefit from early warning in predicting potential conflicts and disputes, which in turn affect the achievement of national security of African countries.
