A comparative study between the experience of ASEAN and the League of Arab States to achieve economic integration

Abstract

As the nations always look forward to better conditions especially in the development with its different aspects, they search for tools necessary for this renaissance. This is the practical solution to this impasse all over the world, especially in the Arab countries. In this context, it is represented in the integration through regional groupings with various targets that fit the nations’ national interests which are the maximization of their interests.
It is too important to highlight that through a comparison with ASEAN association selected for comparison with League of Arab States for several reasons the most critical of which is that, both of them were established in similar period of time which was the post-world war 11, and both of them share internal conditions, geographical proximity, and the availability of several indicators necessary for a successful regional integration. In spite of that, ASEAN association has recorded high rates of regional integration, while League of Arab States failed to achieve that. This study tries to define the reasons to draw learned lessons that will be applicable practical suggestions for the Arab countries.
